Chiyo Sakura, a high school girl who fell in love with the unrefined boy schoolmate Umetaro Nozaki, decides to be courageous one day and asks him out. Her feelings weren't conveyed properly, and before she knew it she ends up helping a particular job of his as an assistant... The series is a shojo manga boy comedy which centers around Nozaki, a high school boy that is a popular shojo manga artist, and has a story woven by very individualistic characters.

THE STORY IS: Sakura is a normal high-school girl who has a crush on a tall, handsome boy named Nozaki. When she decides to confess her love to him, she instead confesses that she is a huge fan of him & Nozaki gives her an autograph. She later finds out that he is a popular manga artist & gets roped into helping him out with his manga. I knew this was going to be a typical "school life" & shounen" type anime, but Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun doesn't really do anything different to help it stand apart from the rest in this genre. Mainly, it's very standard & dull. Over the course of the anime, there isn't anything exciting that happens nor is there anything that, to be honest, would make you wanna continue watching because there really wasn't much of a story. After Sakura confesses to Nozaki, it's all just interactions with friends, going places, & the friends' love interests. Everything that happens is just Nozaki looking for new material & ideas to write for his manga. There honestly is not much outside of that for Gekkan Shoujo. I understand that it's supposed to give the impression of a "comedy" in a way. I just didn't see the humor where it was supposed to be had. I could've stopped watching this anime a few episodes in & not care if I ever came back to it. ANIMATION & SOUND: Animation was up to par with a normal 2014 anime. Nothing special or any big movements to be had. Just a simple school life anime with no action or anything major. The sound was decent. The music fit the theme of the anime even though it didn't stand out. The voice acting was typical for this type of anime. Nothing major in the emotional department. Just your standard run-of-the-mill school life style anime. CHARACTERS: This is another thing that was a turn-off for me in Gekkan Shoujo. The characters didn't go anywhere growth wise. It was a typical "what you see is what you get" scenario. Sakura is a girl in love that can't express her feelings at all & has the internal thoughts to go along with it. Nozaki is very bland. There is literally nothing special about him except he is mostly always focused on his manga. The supporting characters are hit or miss. I would liked to have seen more development with all the cast though, but nothing happened in the end. They were supposed to be stereotypes & they succeeded in that, but to me there wasn't anything more for them to go off of. OVERALL: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun wasn't a terrible anime, just felt very lacking & unsatisfying. There wasn't much of a story to follow nor were the characters anything you could relate to or entertaining to watch. I would recommend people to not watch this anime overall, but if you decide to watch it, it has it's charm, but it's nothing special. There are definitely more complete animes out there in this genre.
